brainblurb – future of education is changing

Educational outcomes will become more predictable

The writing is on the wall. Education providers will have to change their approach to how they deliver content and personalise the learning experience. They will most likely be able to deliver much higher results based on such an individual approach to education. Historically, no one could predict the outcome of any educational program but providers start shifting the focus from groups of students to each individual student, conduct ongoing individual content alignment more often and select suitable mentors according to the student’s personal goals. Knowledge and skills obtained in this way will become much more predictable.

Education will almost completely be online

Educational channels like video lectures, virtual reality education, online assessments and mobile lifelong learning will almost completely delivered online. Education providers will collect student data that will help organisations to understand the real involvement in the learning process of each student. As a result, students will leave schools and universities with the personal learning data set – data about themselves. Based on this very personal data set students receive recommendations as to what would be the best sector of employment or show development potential. This data insight will be aligned with economic data to avoid studying for occupations that are in decline or not in line with the student’s personal strengths.

Schools and Universities as we used to know them will disappear

Yes, pretty much so. With so many new ways of studying students will begin to acquire knowledge via new learning channel and bypassing educational institutions. Many studies confirm that physical in-house lectures are the most inefficient teaching format. Universities worldwide are already switching from traditional lectures to video lectures encouraging students to self-study from anywhere in the world. Prestigious universities such as Stanford, MIT or Oxford already offer free online courses for everyone interested. They are joined by Apple (iTunes University), Microsoft and other corporates offering even more courses.

Students will manage their own learning paths

Using the technology and other available online services students will have a much wider choice of skills and knowledge they want to learn. AI-driven personal advisors will guide the next generation through the maze of course offerings constantly adjusting the learning path. Don’t forget one of the most important 21st-century skills is the ability and motivation for lifelong learning.
