I love sailing and I must admit the idea of circumnavigating the world on a sailing boat is very tempting for me personally. My family has a slightly different view and with two young boys in primary school this would be a huge step 😊
However, as crazy as it sounds there are actually plenty of families with kids of all ages voyaging the world seas.
This post is about three families and one single-handed sailor that are very active on YouTube and post beautiful video stories about their adventures.
So if you are interested in sailing the big blue water here you go.
A crazy sailing family! With no prior sailing experience, the Williams family sold their suburban Texas home in 2016 and bought a sailboat. With four kids in tow, they took a Beneteau Oceanis 55′ monohull from Florida all the way to Australia within a time span of one year. They home-school their kids on the boat.
They sold their Beneteau in Australia and travelled to Greece and bought a catamaran a 58′ Privilege catamaran, and they hope to travel the rest of the globe before their oldest daughter (Anna, 17) leaves for college.
The Sailing Family (TSF)
The Sailing Family. are Vita, Alina, Suu & Klaus. They bought a 26 feet sailboat and started sailing in Greece and Italy for the first time. Once they realised that 26 feet was too small for them they sold the yacht and bought a bigger sailing vessel in Panama.
In July 2017 they started again to discover Central America, the Caribbean Islands and Florida
SailOceans – Family Life Unplugged
The Polish family Ania, Bartek, Kuba and Julian are travelling the world and sailing across oceans on their floating home, a 15 meter trimaran, as a way of promoting alternative way of life off the grid.
In 2014 they managed to materialize their dreams and traded a land based home in Poland for a permanent life on the ocean – their sailboat “Poly”
Erik Aanderaa – No Bullshit. Just sailing.
The most impressive single-handed (means he sails ALONE) sailor I am following is Norwegian Erik Aanderaa. He makes videos about his single-handed sailing trips in another way than most other sail-vloggers do. You will not find any beaches, partying, or much sunshine for that matter in his adventures.
Erik’s content is all about him being offshore at sea challenging himself in the elements. His Sail-Vlog is about sailing in cold, windy, wavy and harsh conditions out in the unforgivable North Sea outside the coast of Norway. His videos are extremely high-quality productions recorded while sailing!
